Racial Justice

Since its foundation in 1915, the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom has united women from all over the world without discrimination on the basis of race, religion or for any other reason. WILPF continues to work for the elimination of racism in all its forms on national and international levels, as well as within the organization. WILPF welcomes every step taken, legal and social, educational and spiritual, to eradicate racial discrimination.

WILPF calls for multilevel approaches in understanding and identifying the points where race and gender intersect in manifestations of racism. WILPF past President, Bruna Nota made it clear when she said:

"We are convinced that the elimination of racism in all its forms is essential to create an enduring peace, and an enduring culture of peace."

WILPF has been actively involved in the NGO Forum at the 2001 World Conference Against Racism in Durban, South Africa, and is now working with the preparations for the upcoming 2009 Durban Review Conference to ensure full NGO involvement and contribution to the evaluation process.
