Middle East Standing Committee

Members of the Committee

Convenor: Heidi Meinzolt Depner (Germany)

There is a desire to have more members in the standing committee as well as to look towards the possibility of more sections in the region.  There is a real desire to do more work in the countries themselves, to do more than make slogans and talk.  There was a panel on the Middle East where five recommendations were proposed:

  1. Work toward a nuclear free Middle East
  2. To work on islamaphobia in western countries,
  3. To work on discrimination on the basis of race ethnicity, class and nationality
  4. To expand sections in the Middle East with emphasis on Jordan and Egypt
  5. To hold a Y-WILPF led conference in the region
