WILPF International Secretariat Internship – Geneva

Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom (WILPF) work on issues of peace, human rights and disarmament at the local, national and international levels. We participate in ongoing national and international debates on peace and security issues, conflict prevention and resolution, on the elimination of all forms of discrimination, and the promotion and protection of human rights. We contribute to analysis of women peace and security issues, and through our program activities educate, inform and mobilize women for increased participation and response.

Expected tasks and responsibilities

  • Supporting program staff in the preparation and implementation of national consultations and a conference on UNSCR 1325 in the MENA region in connection with Human Right Council 20th Session in June 2012, including reporting;

  • Support program staff with implementation of the WILPF Capacity Building Program;

  • Research and analysis on Women, Peace and Security issues;

  • Editing, proof-reading and preparing submissions, briefing and training material;

  • Observing, documenting and monitoring proceedings of UN mechanisms related to women peace and

security;

  • Contribute to preparation of WILPF advocacy material and campaigns;

  • Supporting program staff through the provision of logistical tasks as needed;

  • Accompany staff to meetings with partner organizations and country sections.

Application and Selection
Applicants will have completed a Bachelors degree. Preference will be given to those with an advanced knowledge of the politics and human rights in the Arab region, and who have practical or academic background in Women’s Human Rights/Gender/Women Peace and Security, International Human Rights/International Humanitarian Law, International Politics of the Middle East, Human Rights in the United Nations,

Candidates must be fluent in English. Language competency in Arabic strongly preferred.

Duration: 7 months

Start: 30 November 2011

End date: 30 June 2012 (can be extended for 1 month)

Non-paid internship (Travel expences will be met by the organisation)
