WILPF women across the globe deal with human rights issues in various campaigns, utilizing grassroots organizing from protest and postcard campaigns to affecting government and international policy at the United Nations. At WILPF’s International Secretariat in Geneva, WILPF representatives utilize the organization's NGO status to engage in global discourses on human rights issues, primarily through involvement with the Human Rights Council and the Human Rights Treaty Bodies. This role serves to support human rights struggles locally and to contribute to human rights developments globally. At the Geneva office, WILPF representatives follow the Human Rights Council, Universal Periodic Review and Treaty Bodies, make reports available to serve as a liaison between members and the United Nations and campaign via written and oral statements. All WILPF members are encouraged to participate in this process. By providing the information below, WILPF hopes to serve both WILPF’s mission of active feminist involvement in movements for social justice and the U.N.’s mission to involve civil society in its role of securing international peace and justice.
