Currently there are eight core international human rights treaties (see right). Each of these legal instruments is connected to a committee of experts. The committees monitor and encourage States to uphold and implement their international obligations.

The WILPF human rights team follows the treaty body sessions for countries with WILPF sections. The reports are available on the following specific treaty body pages:

The members of the treaty bodies are independent experts in the field of human rights. They are meant to serve in their personal capacity and carry out their duties with absolute impartiality and objectivity.

States party to one of these treaties are obliged to submit periodical reports to the treaty body in question, to examine the compliance with their obligations.
