Blow the Whistle to Redefine Security!
WILPF 16 Days of Activism Campaign, 25 November – 10 December 2011
The 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence is a global campaign originating from the first Women’s Global Leadership Institute sponsored by the Center for Women’s Global Leadership (CWGL) at Rutgers University in 1991. Since then, the campaign has run annually from 25 November - International Day against Violence against Women, through 10 December - International Human Rights Day, to symbolically state that violence against women is a human rights violation. The 2011 Campaign theme is “From Peace in the Home to Peace in the World: Let's Challenge Militarism and End Violence Against Women!”
With countries spending enormous amounts of money every year on militarism, it is clear that a shift in priorities is necessary in order to achieve sustainable development, gender equality and peace. WILPF encourage all members to take action during the 16 Days of Activism. WILPF participation in 2011 Campaign is “Blow the Whistle to Redefine Security”. WILPF calls for:
1. Reduction of military spending.
2. Challenge the profiteers of conflict
3. Redefine Security
