Madeleine Rees
Dear WILPF Members,
We are delighted to announce that from May 1st 2010, our Secretary General will be Madeleine Rees.
Madeleine joins us having been the head of the Women's Rights and Gender Unit of the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR). Before this, she spent several years working in Bosnia where she headed the Field Office of the OHCHR.
Throughout her UN career and her work as a solicitor in the UK predating this, Madeleine has acquired the reputation of being one of the world's foremost figures in the field of women's rights, peace, and security. The respect and admiration she elicits from high level diplomats and grass roots activists alike is impressive, and her reputation as a defender of human rights is sterling.
We hope that you will share in our excited anticipation of working with Madeleine, and we will be sure to provide a more detailed bio of her in the very near future.
