Aotearoa (New Zealand)

WILPF Aotearoa sent the following message to all its members and a letter to all female members of Parliament to raise WILPF's priorities for action.

Kia ora koutou

Today, 28th April, is the 95th anniversary of the founding of WILPF, which took place in The Hague in the Netherlands during the First World War.

Here in Aotearoa New Zealand we had branches established in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch by the end of 1916.

In this country and internationally, we WILPF women have been working together ever since on the issues of peace, disarmament, human rights, economic justice and justice for all peoples. We take strength from working with women and for women (although not exclusively), and by working in a constructive and non-violent way.

Today, please think about all the wonderful women of WILPF, and make some time to celebrate our achievements.

Happy 95th birthday, WILPF!

Sweden

  • Challenging militarism;
  • Investing in peace;
  • Strenghtening the UN;
  • Building WILPF.

United Kingdom

UK WILPF will be celebrating WILPF's Anniversary. They are repeating the format of 2009 when together with a large white, green and violet cake, several of us spoke about individual pioneers - Jane Addams, Crystal MacMillan et al. To see pictures of the 2009 event, please click HERE.

This may become a tradition. The difference this year is, instead of being in a room over a pub, WILPF's Anniversary shall be at SOASWILPF the thriving WILPF student society. Starting student WILPF societies is one of the current achievements and forward plans of the UK Section of WILPF. The celebration will take place on Tuesday 4th.
