Year 2005 was the year of memory, 2006 will be the year of preparing the change.
In the beginning of 2006, Helene Laffly (treasurer) and Simone Landry (secretary) have sent a letter to the members of the Section and members of the Executive WILPF, to express their wish not to continue to do their work at the end of 2006, but continuing to be member of WILPF/LIFPL, and Simone Landry request for to carry on to be as representative of WILPF at UNESCO, according to she was elected with unanimity in a group of three ONG (ATD Quart monde- AFAL-WILPF) to animate the CPM Elimination de la Pauvreté at UNESO6.
When we think, we can say that the first priority for the French Section during 2006 was: Violence Against Women. We have supported the campaigns, sent petitions, tracts, letters to protest against violence and murders against women .The violence is increasing and the whole family is disrupted, specially the children.
The violence and murders are not only because of poverty. In some countries, where we can see war and conflicts, violence and murders seem legitimate. The change is necessary with more consciousness because of: the warming of the climate, and the increase of the poverty, even in “ rich country”. The wealth becoming more and more reserved for select people.
We note too a lost of identity, the causes of violence, all over the world.
In April 2006, at our General Assembly, we have as guest Edith Ballantyne. She has spoken of the reforms for the CHARTE of U.N. Questions that the NGOs are wondering about their representative within the U.N and the follow up of their work.
In June, we were at the General Assembly of the CLEF. In conclusion, we found a very ask of new strategies concerning equality between women and men.
We still went to the meetings of “Stop Essais-Elimitation de l’arme nucléaire” and “Abollition 2OOO ”. A document was written and sent to politics and personalities.
We have distributed documents at the Forum des Associations of 9th district of Paris and at the show of “ Initiatives de Paix” at the Vilette, where we had a stand. For the 8th of March, a lot of manifestations took place in all the cities Hall in Paris and all over the country. The members of French Section were very present.
We have supported the young for their problems (manifestations and petitions)
In June 2006, we had a stand, as I said above, during the three days of Salon des Initiatives de Paix à la Villette. We distributed several document, specially all the documents concerning Resolution 1325 I invited Susi Snyder, during these three days. She has been representative of WILF with a great success during a Round Table.
In September, during another forum for Associations in the 9th district, Simone Landry met a lot of people and she has spoken about nuclear.
The nuclear represent in France the defense, so when we ask the elimination of nuclear weapons it seems as we leave the country without defense in front of supposedly enemies.
In November, we were invited at the opening of Institut Emilie du Châtelet. This Institute will be dedicated to gender.
To prepare the change of the Bureau of the French Section, a meeting took place in Paris on September and another one in Grenoble on February 2007.
Gisele Noublanche continues activities in Pré. St Geervais. She realized two exhibitions with a great success.
Bernadette Parance is very active in Meurthe et Moselle
We had the sadness of the death of our President SOLANGE FERNEX. Her memory will stay in the heart of all of us.
