Received by fax, 19 July 2006
The Thirty-Second Session of the Committee on World Food Security will be held at FAO Headquarters from 18 to 22 September 20065. A Special Forum will be held on Tuesday September 19th and Wednesday September 20 with attendance by Heads of State. There will also be side events: The International Alliance Against Hunger (IAAH) the Voluntary Guidelines on the Right to Food, and Better Campaign for Aid to Food, Agriculture and rural Development. Potential themes for the discussions include:
-
Agrarian Reform and Food Security (Food Sovereignty) building on ICARRD);
-
Rights Based approaches, including the Right to Food;
-
Transformations in Aid and Investment: impacts on food security;
-
Innovations in Research and Extension: changing dynamics of production economy and technology.
Food security in the world would be attained when banks and corporations stop to deal with it. Small scale production, a consequence of a real agrarian reform. Together with investments on infrastructures which improve the life of people (irrigation and clean drinking water) are in our opinion the key points to enable to realize step by step food security. Food should not be considered only consumer goods. Right countries should stop the politics of subsistence. The UN system would adhere to its charter, which foresees peace and stability in every country.
The base of the development in the world is to prevent and resolve conflicts peacefully and create a stable political environment through respect for all human rights and fundamental freedoms. As WILPF we work to abolish war because we consider that militarism war and preparation for war consume resources that are necessary to meet people's needs for a decent life in a healthy environment, and above all, to meet the needs of food, shelter, health and education.
Report of the Ad hoc NGO meeting held on 12 April 2006 at FAO- Pakistan Room
The Ad Hoc group intended to make the water issue a top priority for 2006 – 2007 and the the work as closely as possible with FAO on the issue with attention for women farmers. WILPF and IAW emphasized to bring into the dialogue on the special forum at the 32nd session of the CFS. The small scale farming method which includes the use of water for irrigation and clean drinking water.
Dr. Marcela Villreal is the leadership of the Gender and Population Divisiion. She showed a video on what the division is doing on AIDS and orphans and vulnerable children in Mozambique under the Junior Farmer Field and Life School Programme. The ad hoc group expressed the wish to find ways in which our organizations can be involved with the Gender and Population Division. Dr. Villereal encouraged the NGOs of the ad hoc group to contact her directly. We think that WILPF could be inovlved wihtin these projects concerning education on human rights. Another pilot project is programming on education in Tanzania. Finally the ad hoc group created its own website- www.ahgingos.org
Peace,
