WILPF, Economic and Social Justice

WILPF understands that past and ongoing imperialist policies carry much of the blame for world poverty which is intensified by war and conflict, and the inequitable trading rules imposed by rich countries through the World Trade Organisation (WTO), World Bank, International Monetary Fund (IMF) and various regional trade agreements. Believing that under systems of exploitation real and lasting peace and true freedom cannot exist, the organisation makes it its duty to further the social transformation that enables the inauguration of systems under which social and political equality and economic equity for all can be attained. WILPF emphasizes the linkages among economic, social and cultural issues, and conflict, production and sales of arms and war and sees the establishment of an international economic order founded on the principles of meeting the needs of all people and not on those of profit and privilege as its ultimate goal.

The WILPF Economic Justice section of this website is specifically concerned with the workers rights and social conditions in Export Processing Zones. We have therefore started a database containing information about EPZs, the countries in which they are situated and related international agreements. You can enter the database here.
