ECOSOC

The Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) coordinates economic, social, and related work of the 14 UN specialized agencies, 10 functional commissions and five regional commissions. It function both as a forum for discussion and as a policy formulator, advicing Member States and the United Nations system. It’s mandate is to promot economic and social progess, full employment, addressing problems related to the international economy and social sphere advocating human rights and freedom.

ECOSOC has gradually strenghtend its position and outside of the substantive sessions initiated a tradition of annual meetings with representatives of the Development Committee of the World Bank, the International Monetary and Financial Committee of the International Monetary Fund, the General Council of the World Trade Organization and the Trade and Development Board of UNCTAD, aiming at increased and deepening dialogue in order to achieve the goals put forward.
