ALICE DAVIS 28/06/1928 -10/12/2006

Alice D. Davis passed away on December 10 2006, 78 years old. She was born 28 June 1928 in Beloit, Wisconsin where she also studied and earned a degree in psychology and sociology. After graduation she married Fred “Dave” Davis and in 1957 they moved to Southern California. She stayed in the Los Angeles area all of her professional life, whereas she worked for 17 years as a social worker in Watts. While she was working in Watts she was also active in the Watts United Credit Union and started a child care center with the Neighborhood Organization of Watts.

Alice was throughout her whole life a political activist and an active member of her community. She was involved in the civil rights, anti-war, anti-nuclear, women's and farmworker's rights movements. Her community service work was greatly appreciated and she received awards from the county Women's Commission, the county Board of Supervisors and Senior Outreach Program among others.

After her retirement in 1984 she moved to Santa Cruz where she became an officer and an active member of the Santa Cruz branch of Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom. Until the very end, Alice remained an active defender of peace all over the world. She was always ready to stand up to protest against the horrors of war and to draw attention to crimes against international humanitarian law.
