Greenpeace protest in Zaragoza

Tenerife News

Greenpeace activists scaled the Basilica of Pilar in Zaragoza last week and unfurled a huge banner bearing the words For Peace: No to Cluster Bombs.
The protest was targeting Instalaza, a Zaragoza-based company that manufactures armaments and which, in the last two years, has sold cluster bombs to many countries, making a profit of 3 million euros in the process.
“Instalaza claims that its weapons are “modern” and incorporate auto-destructive devices, but it is not true,” said a representative of Greenpeace during the protest.
“The most recent evidence we have is in Libya (sic) where there are around a million of these bombs lying around unexploded.
“We demand the Spanish government bans the making, storing and selling of cluster bombs and that our country’s armed forces withdraw them from their arsenal,” she said.
