1st January 2008: Israelis not credible on cluster bombs (US)

January 1, 2008
GEORGE DARGO Boston Globe
SURPRISE, surprise: The Israeli Army, having investigated itself, finds no violation of international humanitarian law in its use of cluster bombs during the 2006 Lebanese war ("Military upholds use of cluster bombs," Page A4, Dec. 25). But every outside group that has looked into the matter disagrees.

Even our own State Department - not often given to criticism of Israel these days - concluded that the Israel Defense Forces violated the conditions governing the use of cluster bombs supplied by the United States. Only an inquiry by the International Court of Justice in the Hague or the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg have the requisite independence to conduct such an investigation.
The conclusions of the Israeli Army have zero credibility.
